IFCBT (Combined Individual And Family Therapy)
In Comparison To Treatment As Usual For People At Risk Of Psychosis: A feasibility Study.
IFCBT: The NICE Guidelines (2014) recommendation for a person considered to be at increased risk of developing psychosis is individual cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) with or without family intervention. This trial has been awarded funding from the Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) stream at the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to investigate whether family CBT alongside individual CBT is an acceptable, feasible and potentially effective treatment option for people at risk of psychosis.
Clients who are At Risk of Psychosis will be randomly allocated to either individual CBT alongside family therapy or treatment as usual. IFCBT is a pilot trial recruiting participants who are between the ages of 16-35, help seeking and meet the IFCBT Criteria (see below). For those participants who are to receive therapy, this will include up to 25 sessions of Individual CBT alongside 4-6 sessions of CBT with key family members or family support members. All clients are highly valued in the trial and will receive follow-up assessments with a research assistant at 6 and 12 months.
