Sophie Hodson

Assistant Psychologist

Sophie Hodson is a Research Assistant

Sophie Hodson is a Research Assistant Psychologist based at the Psychosis Research Unit (PRU) within Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH). She plays a key role on the Let’s Talk 2 trial, a NIHR-funded randomised controlled trial (RCT) that supports people living with psychosis who face stigma-related challenges in their daily lives.

Since joining the PRU team in October 2025, Sophie has been actively involved in recruiting participants into the Let’s Talk 2 trial. She regularly delivers presentations to mental health teams across the GMMH footprint, helping to raise awareness and build engagement around the study. Her responsibilities include conducting research assessments, ensuring participants receive consistent and supportive research experiences that align with ethical standards and clinical best practice.

Before joining GMMH, Sophie gained valuable clinical experience in various assistant psychologist roles. At the Complex Trauma and Dissociation (CTAD) Clinic, she supported psychological assessments and deepened her understanding of trauma-informed care. She also worked in a home-based treatment team, where she developed strong skills in risk assessment and delivering 1:1 psychological interventions in a community setting.

Sophie holds a BSc (Hons) in Psychology from Nottingham Trent University (2022) and a master’s degree in Psychological Wellbeing in Clinical Practice from Manchester Metropolitan University (2023). Her academic background includes research into the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on student wellbeing and contributions to longitudinal studies examining how parent–child relationships influence mental health outcomes over time.

With a strong foundation in both clinical work and academic research, Sophie brings compassion, curiosity, and analytical thinking to her role in psychosis research. She is passionate about improving outcomes for people with severe mental health problems through evidence-based, participant-centred care. Outside of work, she enjoys travelling and running.
