Trial Therapist

Sophie Faulkner – Trial Therapist

Sophie is a therapist on the iATTp (investigation of Attention Training Technique for people with psychosis) trial, under the supervision of Dr Sophie Parker (PRU) and Professor Adrian Wells (UoM). This trial aims to explore the feasibility and acceptability of Attention Training Technique (a component of Meta-Cognitive Therapy) for adults with psychotic illnesses. Sophie is passionate about research to improve access to evidence based non-drug treatments within secondary care mental health services, so is excited to contribute to this trial.

Sophie has worked as an Occupational Therapist in a range of clinical areas, including acute physical, and rehabilitation, before making her way into mental health. Since finding her passion in mental health she has worked in inpatient settings, and as a CMHT (Community Mental Health Team) care co-ordinator. Alongside her clinical roles Sophie has been developing her research skills, completing the Clinical Scholar’s Scheme, followed by her Masters in Clinical Research, at The University of Manchester. Sophie is now undertaking a Clinical Doctoral Research Fellowship funded by NIHR, alongside her role at PRU. Sophie’s research focuses on the role of the Occupational Therapist in relation to sleep, particularly sleep in people with schizophrenia spectrum disorders. Sophie’s publications can be accessed on her Researchgate Profile

Sophie hopes to continue to combine clinical and research roles in future, and is keen to learn from the experienced clinical academics and trial methodologists at PRU.

In her spare time Sophie enjoys socialising, discovering new board games, learning to crochet, and attempting hill walking despite not being very good at it. Outside of work Sophie can often be found listening to an audiobook whilst working on a DIY project.
